The Sussex Junior Festival is done for another year (and huge congratulations to our U16 Boys team for winning the Bowl competition final against Brighton & Hove), the adult season has one round of league fixtures left and D&D day is also behind us, so we are now preparing for the grand finale, our Annual Awards Day, which will take place on Saturday 12 September, at the Preston Park Velodrome, with a start time of 1330 for the Juniors (Girls and Boys) and the evening for the Adults (Women and Men).

We are also looking to run the 1883 Challenge to help the club crowdraise £7,500 and unlock another £7,500 from Sport England so we can lay down two more hybrid wickets in 2027 (details below), so please do sign up!

In addition, weather permitting there can be ad hoc softball games, in the outfield for the juniors in the afternoon, while during the Junior Awards Ceremony, coaches of the U11, U14 and U16 Girls and U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, and U16 Boys will all hand out awards for

Best Bowler
Most Improved Player (which can be a proxy for Best Fielder, if you wish)
Player's Player of the Year (the players vote here and a Survey Monkey survey makes this nice and easy)
[Given the size of their squads, and how they run two teams the boys' years will hand out two sets of trophies - one for each team - from U9 through to U16]

In the evening, Adult captains will award trophies to the Women's hardball and softball team and the First to Sixth XIs, Sunday XI and Slam team for

The St Peter's 1883 Challenge

This is a fund raiser to help us lay down two more, brand new hybrid wickets to add to the two we put down in 2026, one on each of the grass squares.

These new pitches are much harder wearing than the traditional pure grass ones and take more matches during the season, while still playing like grass strip.

This helps the club to provide the best possible playing surfaces throughout the season and particularly toward the later stages when key league fixtures and Junior Festival matches take place.

We have received a grant for £7,500 from Sport England and need to raise a further £7,500 so we can put down the hybrids and provide a further improvement in our playing facilities for all of our teams.

The St Peter's 1883 Challenge asks 2026's junior and adult teams, men and women, boys and girls, to do a sponsored run over (at least) 1,883 metres each (about three times around the cycle track), in a team relay, or as individuals and they can do so wearing cricket kit if they so choose, or at least use a bat as a baton in any relay ... or frankly do it any style you wish, so please be inventive!
